The Health System Response Monitor (HSRM) has been designed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak to collect and organize up-to-date information on how countries are responding to the crisis. It focuses primarily on the responses of health systems but also captures wider public health initiatives. This is a joint undertaking of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, the European Commission, and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies.

Covid-19 and the sustainability of health financing: anticipated effects and policy options

Tuesday 09 February 2021 from 12:00-13:00 CET

While the initial response to the COVID-19 pandemic was focused on preventing and mitigating a public health crisis, the situation has, in many countries, rapidly spiralled into a full blown economic and public finance crisis. This has serious implications for health financing at a time when greater resources are needed for public health. Countries have some room to make extra financial allocations available to the health sector, but the potential impact on budgets through 2021 remain unclear. What can we learn from previous financial crises about sustainable health financing? How can governments strengthen health financing during the pandemic? Join us in this webinar to learn more about sustainability and crisis budgets during the pandemic.

The COVID-19 HSRM builds on the expertise of the Health Systems and Policy Monitor network and the WHO Country Offices and the knowledge and work of colleagues in the Regional Office and DG SANTE who are dealing with the pandemic and supporting countries. The webinar series is indebted to them all.
