Testing for patients with suspected Covid-19 and treatment in hospital is covered from MHI funds for all patients, regardless of status (residents, migrants, uninsured, or other potentially vulnerable groups).

From 10 April 2020, with the introduction of home treatment for mild cases, drugs are purchased out of pocket with the amounts paid in pharmacies ranging between 200 and 1000 Lei (10-50 EURO) depending on the symptoms. People can also get tested at 3 private laboratories, the amount paid OOP is around 750 MDL (40 EURO).

Public health care facilities are to provide medical care to all persons who meet the criteria case definitions for COVID-19, regardless of their status in the state system compulsory health insurance (insured vs. uninsured).
